What? No take-backsies!

So before I left, this company called me and asked if I could come by the following day for an interview. Because of a family emergency I couldn't make it in, so they asked me to do a phone interview. I left thinking it'd be amazing if it worked out, but I was able to check my email some time later to find this:

Maybe it's just gotten to the type of situation where if you aren't an exact fit for their company...if you don't have the exact experience they're looking for, in the time period that they deem appropriate, you're SOL.

Ouch, that one hurt

That one did hurt. But don't you fret, young fish.  The world, is still, in fact, your oyster.  Dooon't stop...dreaaaaming!

But...I want to promote sustainability and design...

After attending UC Berkeley, you are sure to gain a love for sustainability and the environment around you.  You want to help change the world, and so what do you do? You apply for up and coming companies that promote that same ideology that encompassed you when you went to school.  You are sure that coming from such a prestigious university, any company would love to have you on their team, nurture you into their family of corporate individuals and teach you the way of corporate responsibility.  But sometimes...things don't always go as planned...

The First Cut Is The Deepest?

I know, I KNOW, but that song just resonates with my fresh-out-of-college (okay, 4 months is not that fresh) soul. I want to talk to you about rejection letters. Whether it is a rejection letter from your first-choice university, that cute boy that you told to check either "yes" or "no" if he liked your hair in the 3rd grade, or the part-time job you had to apply to in order to gain "work experience", it still HURTS. Shit just got real. But, you know what? All you can do is sit back, wait some more, and laugh at the circumstances surrounding your life. You know the a) being $20,000+ in debt b) making do with an architectural degree from an uncredited program or c) knowing close to nothing about real life matters--you have to take it all in stride. Be patient. Have hope. Keep your faith. And humor us a little. Without laughter in your unemployed post-grad life, it all can be daunting. And what do you have? Nothing but these rejection letters.

A more recent, most likely automated one:

And one of the earlier ones, which do come with a more "personal" tone in baby blue writing:

So, don't you throw those rejection letters away (I wished I had kept all of my college ones)! Just think of it this way: at least you're hearing back. You kind of maybe just a little exist on their radar. You kind of maybe just a little are THAT important.
